RTI - how much extra to charge client?

RTI - how much extra to charge client?

Didn't find your answer?

I was just wondering what the general feeling was amongst everyone regarding increasing payroll charges to clients with the introduction of RTI from April 2013.

It looks on the face of it like it's going to involve some extra work (and responsibility) so I guess fees will need to be increased?

RTI Charges

Hi

This question has already been posed and several people answered including myself.  Perhaps if you do a search for RTI clients fees you will find it, as it was a couple of weeks ago.

Some saw it as part of their overall job to do without charging.  I myself will be charging probably £10 per monthly payroll for submitting the monthly report and perhaps £6-£7 per week for the weekly run payrolls.  I will also be charging a set up fee for each payroll, for the fact finding I will have to do during the employer alignment phase.

I based my response on, is there a risk to me being hit with a fine levied by HMRC,  from a client for this work not being done properly.  As HMRC will most likely impose fines like they do for CIS late submissions, I will have to ensure that this deadline is met for the client and therefore am taking a risk, for which I won't take, without being  paid.

Hope this has been of help.

Carolynne

Extra Work

As far as I can see from HMRC's comments on their website, notification must be made to HMRC of the average hours per week worked by each employee. This is laughably simple for some and a nightmare for others. Depending on the client you could be emailing them back and forth as to what hours to use.

As the first job is to send a sort of master template of employees to HMRC, I am tempted to charge the P35 type of cost for this, as of course P35 will be no more from April. This is around one extra payroll cost.

My charges for the following year are notified to clients in January.

I hope HMRC get a move on so we all know exactly what is required very soon.

I have no expectation that it will all go smoothly.

RTI

I went to meeting last night with the I.C.B South West group and we had a lady from HMRC and they say there is a pilot scheme you can be put on Starting In November 2012 so ask your payroll software see if they are doing the pilot. We know Sage are starting In November. They are also doing away with P46 forms.

HMRC say that if you join the pilot scheme you will have a person who will give you 121 support.Might be worth looking into.

re: Hours Worked

Just to be 100% clear with regards to the hours worked included in the submission - this is not the average, or actual, hours worked in the pay period. HMRC want to know the number of hours the employee is normally expected to work in a week. So effectively, whatever their contracted hours are. If they work a variable number of hours then you would specify 'other'.
