SA302 for mortgage advisors

SA302 for mortgage advisors

Didn't find your answer?

We keep getting asked for SA302s by our clients or their mortgage advisors.  When we go to HMRC's website, it clearly states that HMRC will no longer issue paper SA302s for self assessment income and that you must print them off yourself from HMRC software.  However, if you use agent software then there is no facility to print SA302s as the agent software companies have been told that they mustn't print the forms since it could lead to fraudulent mortgage claims.

In the meantime, we are stuck in the middle with mortgage advisors saying that we are making it up as you can't get SA302s and stating that the mortgage companies will not accept anything else and clients who just need the mortgage!

Does anyone have any tidy solutions to this problem?  What do you tell financial advisors as they just think that we are talking rubbish even when we point them to HMRC's website which states that they will no longer print out SA302s.

Thanks for any suggestions!

But they will

I am the first one to decry the reliance placed on SA302s by the financial services industry as ridiculous (and even dangerous) but HMRC will send you copies if you request them. Depending on who you speak to, and the phase of the moon, they may even fax them. No sign of email yet but it is only 2014,

Never had a problem

call the agents helpline and ask for them. Usually arrive within a week.

HMRC

I agree the client has to contact HMRC and they will send them to the client.  Have done this lots of times and it works, although you have to wait at least 10 days

@airgeade

No - you contact the agents helpline and the whole job is done in less than 5 minutes. Get them sent to you - not the client they will only loose them

HMRC will fax

This is an area of HMRC that is efficient (yes... I know...) just ring them and they will fax nearly immediately.

Actually its not only mortgage providers that want an SA302.

I recently had a client whose wife was applying to come over from Turkey to UK. Client had to prove a set amount of income to support her (Turkey being nonEU) and the British Embassy in Ankara would only accept SA302's.

Client found this out only as he was to attend the Embassy to hand over the documents.

Cue a panic phone call from client to me.

I rang HMRC, explained the problem and an SA302 was faxed to the Embassy within 15 mins.

The couple are now living in UK.

Why bother with HMRC?!

When I searched for a contact number to obtain SA302s I came across this website:

https://replaceyourdocs.co.uk/examples.html

It seems you can order fake SA302s, utility bills, bank statements, etc for 'theatrical, educational or novelty purposes'....I wonder if anyone has ever used them for the novelty purpose of getting a mortgage under false pretences?  I expect there are a lot of theatrics if they get caught, followed by an education by the lender when they are blacklisted from borrowing:-)
