Can you use a backup from Sage 50 Accounts Professional 2014 to restore as a new company into Sage Line 50?

Yes, with caveats...
You say Sage Line 50 - Sage 50 has not been called Line 50 for many years now so I assume that it is not a very old version of Sage you want to restore to. Also Sage 50 comes as Accounts, Accounts Plus and Accounts Professional but the data files/backups etc. are identical.
The version you are restoring in to must be the same (i.e. v2014) or greater although, if it is great you'll not be able to backup and restore back in to v2014.
If Foreign Trader has been switched on and you are restoring to either Accounts or Accounts Plus you will have problems.
