Sage bug?

Sage bug?

Didn't find your answer?

Hia,

Using Sage 12, I have just noticed that when I get the stock value report for any period of time, the list contains stock items with a quantity of zero yet have a value!

There are other stock items that are zero quantity and do not have a value, so I am confused. Is this a bug with the software?
Have I been entering something wrongly?

There are a number of product valuation reports in Sage 50. Are you getting this issue with all reports or just one?

I think it's probably because you've got 'allow negative stock ticked'. Sage uses FIFO and you may have issued stock before you've received it in (you can check this in activity). When this happens Sage uses the last cost price. Then when you receive the next stock back in at a cheaper price (putting the qty back to zero) Sage cannot recalculate the value and this gives the negative value. I found a good article the other day when I Googled it but can't find the link now. I haven't worked out a way to correct it yet though- sorry.

Yep, 'allow negative stock' was ticked, & was then un-checked, but after a year, the stock item is still showing a value, & it's quite high, thats how I realized the error, so what i now do  is transfer to ECEL and adjust... would like to have it fixed from Sage but...

The report I use is Product Valuation Reports - Retrospective Product Valuation. As far as I know, its the only report I have to issue Stock Valuation.

There should also be average cost price and last cost product valuation reports as well as one by stock category. Sage says the retrospective report should always be run with a start date of 01/01/1980, which may help with your issue. There can be problems with the retrospective report and it can be inaccurate if the clear stock routine has ever been run to remove old stock transactions.

Unfortunately the average cost price & last cost product valuation reports do not have a from / to date options, thus seem to be irrelevant to auditors!

I tried the retrospective report with a start date as is & it still showed me items with a qty of zero yet have a value.

The clear stock routine was never used,as far as I know.
