SAGE - Directors on payroll - Automatic Enrolment

SAGE - Directors on payroll - Automatic Enrolment

Didn't find your answer?

Good afternoon all,

I have had a discussion with SAGE today, their technical department. In short, SAGE have confirmed the following to me:

- Directors who are paid on payroll should have contracts of employment - they shouldn't be paid on payroll otherwise.

- All directors on payroll must be enrolled for automatic enrolment, presumably because of their first point.

Despite the fact that the director may not have a contract of employment and as a result, not need to be automtically enrolled, SAGE are unable to cope with this. You need to make the director a non UK worker or opt them out yourself.

When I highlighted the fact that many directors do not have a contract of employment and many are paid on payroll they told me that they have never had a client stage for automatic enrolment like that and its news to them.

On top of this, they can't assess employees by their pay reference period, only the tax reference period.

Has anyone else had this experience with SAGE and clients using SAGE 50 for automatic enrolment?

So.....
...... don't use Sage! This kind of twaddle sums up quite neatly why I never will!
