Sage line 50 "online"

Sage line 50 "online"

Didn't find your answer?

There was a thread recently which touched on hosted versions of Sage line 50, and there are a few mentions on Google.

I have one client that still uses Sage but much in the same way that some people hung onto DOS & their 386 PCs all those years ago, ie it feels like they are stuck in & with it.  We can export XL TBs etc at the year end but what takes up so much time is visiting to support & correct entries made by their grumbling administrator.

In the long run I want to move them into the 21st Century (away from Sage) but as a stop gap, being able to access Sage online would be a great help, so has anyone has experience of a hosted version and was there extra cost to the company or you?

Before anyone mentions it, we will also be looking at remote access to their PC.

Thanks in advance

logmein
We use logmein to support several clients on sage; works well. I have also used hosted sage line 50, again works well. But if client already has sage on their desktop logmein would be my prefered solution. One client with a network licence of sage has an old pc sat in the corner of their office for us to access only.

Online50 can help

Paul,

I have sent you a pm with some details.

We could have them setup within 2 working days.

If you need it, we also have a tool which would allow you to see the grumbling administrator's Sage50 screen while you talk them through what needs to be done over the telephone.

We would be delighted to help.

Simple hosting options

Hi Paul

Excuse the approach - we have clients we host Sage line 50 for - it's a very easy way to collaborate with clients and unlike using logmein they will not need it running in an office somewhere (and needing physical space, electricity, backup routine).

Prices start from around £20 per month - by all means contact us if you want to test the water with this. We have a demo version set-up that you can try.

Thanks

Dan

Data hosted where?

You need to know a) where is your date Actually held/stored and b) what is the provider's Service Level Agreement c) how many outages / downtime was there in 2010 AND 2011.  Get the answers in writing.

Completely agree - good questions

For example - our data centre is UK based with a 99.99% server availability SLA. Data is backed up in real-time plus twice daily SQL backups. These are the kind of things you must check. Also worth asking the question - "Can I get a copy of my backup/database anytime? How quickly?"

Data security is vital!!

StephenElms it sounds to me like you have had a bad experience at some point. It is just as well to carry out due diligence especially with regards data security!!

I agree that you want to understand how seriously a hosting partner will take the security of your data.

Having provided Sage 50 online for over 10 years we have a long term (and verifiable) track record. In addition, we are the only company in the UK authorised to host Sage 50 software and offer it on monthly terms.

Everything below can be verified in writing to any serious potential customer and we are very happy to provide references from similar accounting firms.

In marketing people can (and do) say whatever they like to get attention.  That is why Online50 have been ISO270001 accredited for over 3 years.  ISO 27001 is the international standard for data security. Every year we have an independent body externally audit all of our systems and procedures which have an impact on data security for our clients.

We are one of very few online software providers to have this accreditation.

Most importantly, our ISO 27001 covers everything we do. It covers our equipment - because we own all our servers and equipment in the data centres .  It covers the internet connection because we are a registered Internet Service Provider (ISP). It covers all our systems and procedures. (serious potential customers are welcome to see the scope and full accreditation)

Finally to answer the questions asked:

a) Data is held in one of two UK data centres. Every day a global backup is taken of everything in the datacentre and stored at the other data centre. Everything going into or out of our data centre is 128 bit encrypted. Finally you are encouraged to take a backup of the dataset to your local machine each time you log out. That backup will work on any comparible local installation of Sage 50.

b) Our SLA is 99.95% of up time which means if the system is not available for just 7 minutes in a working day, you are entitled to ask for a credit note.  Incidentally, it is really important to understand what the SLA covers (like insurance it is not what is covered but what is NOT covered that you need to take note of).  We own all the hardware in the data centres - our SLA and ISO cover the hardware. We are an independent ISP so our broadband connection to and from the data centre is covered in the SLA and ISO. Our systems and they way we have made the software do all the clever things it can do are all covered again by our SLA and ISO.

c) In the year 2010/11 we did not have a single claim against our SLA.

If you have Sage 50 in your office on your own machines, can you guarantee 99.95% of uptime?

Remote access

I use Windows Remote Desktop a lot - works well. But for supporting clients I often use https://join.me/ - it is free and the client can choose to either (a) let you watch without any control or (b) give you control and watch what you do - great for helping to show them where they went wrong.
