Sage renewals and terminations

Sage renewals and terminations

Didn't find your answer?

I am investigating switching from Sage, which is becoming very expensive, to another provider for accounts production, taxation and practice management.

I rang Sage to ask how much notice I have to give. It turns out that our licences for Taxation automatically renewed on 31 May 2015, which means even if we stop using it, we have to pay until 31 May 2016. I asked why we hadn't been contacted before renewing and they basically said 'well we don't do that, we just renew unless you tell us not to'.

So basically I have to pay their exhorbitant fees for another year regardless of whether I want to use their software or not.  I could cancel Accounts Production which renews in August (although they can't explain why this is a different date) but as the software I want to buy is integrated, this doesn't really work for me as I will still being paying for two lots of tax software from August through to next May.

Is there any way to get around this and force them to cancel the unfair and unwanted renewals?

Ask for a copy of the documentation

Just tell them that have been through your paperwork and cannot find your copy of the documentation that you signed agreeing for auto renewal and would it be possible for them to provide you with a copy of their documentation.

If they can't there is your starting point, if they can then well you agreed to it.

I had this with another software company, they could not find the signed agreement and in the end I cancelled the direct debit and invited them to take me to court.  After six months of arguing they came around to my point of view.
