Have you tried Sage? Their support can fix password issues though there may well be a fee for this.

Have you tried manager without a password?

If you have Sagecover, then Sage will recover for you

Otherwise there are a number of online companies who will recover the password for you, or providing it's licensed software (and I am sure it is) then I have used http://www.accpwr.co.uk in the past and a very good program it is too. £50 one off which is cheaper than most online recovery agents.

And can I suggest, that if you have a number of clients on Sage as I do, then on each installtion creating a "accountant" login, and disabling the manager one as you can bet one staff member will add a password to the manager login and forget it othwerwise.

I can vouch for ...

the link above, I have used Chris Miilards little program for years, in fact just cracked a SAGE 2013 one last week, well worth the  money.

Password Recovery

I notice on the site that Metrobrit linked to it says:

"AccPWR is not in any way connected with, or endorsed by,  Sage (UK) Ltd."

Any 3rd party service offering password recovery has, by definition, reverse engineered the Sage encryption routine which is, I believe, illegal.  I do know that Sage have had other such services shut down in the past...

Unless I've missed something on the web site, how does such a service know that you have a legitimate right to access the data?

ACCPWR ...

... to the best of my knowledge doesn't generally tell you the password - it just clears it, so as a layman in these matters  I don't think it has reversed engineered the encryption routine, just deleted/by-passed it!

Also, ACCPWR isn't a service, the link also shows "No need to send your data to a 3rd party - recover / reset the password yourself" - you buy software that clears the password, it is up to you to make the call on whether you have the legal right to do so. I always get written consent from the client before I use the software.

As an example, if you stab someone with a knife, you cannot hold the hardware shop that sold the knife responsible.

Passwords

Metrobrit's post said:

"or providing it's licensed software (and I am sure it is)"

so I assumed that some check was made on legitimacy...

If all it does is blank the password out then it must be writing back to the data file at a binary level - very dangerous if Sage change the format of the file that the password is stored in...

I appreciate the analogy but it does mean that anyone can gain access to a set of Sage data for which they have no permission.

Password

@jaynewilde

"doesnt ask me for a username just the password"

That just means that you have not switched access rights on - you are, effectively, logging on as MANAGER.

BTW ...

... with SAGE, when you delete the program the data file, which holds the password, remains on your PC - if you want to remove SAGE completely you will have to manually delete the data file.
