Sage Taxation

Sage Taxation

Didn't find your answer?

Having used Sage Taxation for 6 or 7 years now we have always paid one cost for personal tax and another cost for business tax.  We have never had to pay for partnership tax although we have always had a licence to use it for up to 25 clients.  My understanding was that it was included in the price for business tax.

Last year we received a separate bill for partnership tax which I hadn't expected.  When I queried this it was credited and I was a happy bunny.  That is until this year when it has happened again.  I received my invoices for my renewals (with the standard inflationary increases that I can't pass on to my clients) and accepted them OK.  Then a week or so later I received a separate bill for partnership tax.  I thought, "silly old sage, best I call and request a credit note again" but I have now been told that it has to be paid - that a business decision was taken within Sage that partnership tax, which had previously been included would now be chargeable.

Sage hadn't even informed me that would happen until I get the bill 4 days before my renewal date and well past the date for giving notice in writing of my desire to cancel.

Have other Sage taxation users found the same or is it just me?  Has anyone successfully argued against this additional charge?

Think this might just be the final straw with Sage for us.

Same here

I've also had separate invoices this year for the Partnership Tax and Business Tax modules, but they did email me to tell me it was happening long before my renewal. My renewal is June but of course the new charges came in during January so they had me over a barrel this year.

The Business Tax module is a bit of a con because this could be done in Accounts Production. But as soon as you tell the software that the client is a sole trader it sets them up in Business tax so you have no option to do it elsewhere, so have to have the license.

I've used this software for over 10 years and have got used to it, so I don't really want to change now.

When I argued that this change was unfair they did give me 18 months for the price of 12 for the first renewal, but next year I'll be looking elsewhere.

Sage pricing

I've also had separate charges for partnership and trust tax and with ever increasing uplifts on their existing modules I've decided enough is enough. We are currently looking at moving to an alternative tax package and from what we've seen so far it's looking promising both in terms of cost(much much cheaper) and useability. We are looking at BTC, absolute and Tax calc. Once we've moved the tax , we will look to moving the accounts. The only reason we wouldn't change everything at once is the learning time we could lose.

Annoyingly, once you leave Sage you lose the historic data which bearing in mind the cost we've paid over the years is indefensible. I've no doubt they will charge me for a cancellation notification even though my renewal is in March and I regard each contract year as a separate agreement.

We aim to make our decision on an alternative in the next couple of days so we can be ready for the new tax year.
