Sage versions

Sage versions

Didn't find your answer?

I am a bookkeeper. A client has version 15 of Sage yet I have version 17. I completed some postings using my version but when I attempted to restore the backed up file on the clients system it would not open. Can anyone tell me how I can open it on the clients system?

You can't

You won't be able to unless he has the same or higher version than you

You will need to do the adjustments on his machine

I generally ...

... do my postings as a csv (or extract them as a csv) and just load them on the clients machine.

Although I have all versions from 9 onwards, so would try and work in the same version as client in the first place.

Agree with occa

Yes you can not restore version 17 data on to version 15. It has to go the other way. However you can not restore, say, version 13 on to version 17 because apparently the gap is too large. To restore a v13 data to v17 you have to first restore it to v15 and then restore to v17. Joy!

2012 (v18) will take anything from v12 onwards, anything earlier will have to be restored and resaved on v12 first as I think they changed the way the program handled things. I know this as I am in the process of aligning everything on v18 as it is too confusing having them spread ofver many versions. I haven't tried personally but v18 is supposed to be compatible with two or three versions back too!

You can restore v13 directly in to v17, in fact you can restore from v11 onwards directly in to v17...

Thank you all for your comments. Fortunately I had only posted a couple of adjustments. I will simply re-post on clients system. Thank you once again.

Sage 2018

Although Sage make out that there's something simple about the process what they in fact do is install each version on your machine!

But you can't ...

... restore v11 directly onto v18!

Indeed

Each new version moves one further on in terms of what can be restored, v2011 goes back to v11, v2012 goes back to v12 so I suspect v2013 (when it is released) will go back as far as v13...
