Self Assessment agents

Self Assessment agents

Didn't find your answer?

There is an agents helpline for SA. I phoned this and was answered relatively quickly. However. I' was phoning about my own personal tax return. As I am not a registered agent for myself they refused to deal with me - a simple question. It really is banging head against brick wall with such un helpfulness.

Why is it?
You were phoning in your capacity as a tax payer. The agent line is for agents. If you wanted to be your agent then you can always set up a 64-8 for yourself.

Why as a tax payer, should you have any preference over any other tax payer?

Agree with Jekyll and Hyde. I have a 64-8 in place for myself and everybody in the family, just in case.

I gave up ringing HMRC years ago, I was fed up waiting, waiting to be told what I already knew/surmised.

I've found that if you ring the agent's helpline and explain you are an agent but have a general query they'll normally help you out.

Even where there is not a 64-8 they often let you hypothesise and do their best to answer any query

I am set up as an agent for myself and family

The HMRC people can't see your record until they can get past security at their end so they wouldn't be able to get into your record. I don't think they were being awkward.
