Client has changed its accounting date resulting in a short period of accounts.
Should the accounts be:
"Period from xx to xx"
"Period ended xx"
"x months ended xx"

Not the middle one because it doesn't specify the period.
Either of the others depending on your preference. Mine would be for the last one.
Do what the HMRC one says...
Period of accounts
Start date: xxx
End date: xxx

Disagree
Period of accounts
Start date: xxx
End date: xxx

Wouldn't dream of it. Find it clumsy and inelegant. Hardly surprising given the source.
Kind of agree

It's not my favourite drafting but at least you know they'll accept it.
Personally I would go with "for the period xxx to xxx".
Depends
Yes, either the first or last option. If it's not an exact number of months - it's got to be the first.
Frankly I'm not interested in what HMRC do or do not "accept" when it comes to accounts. It's none of their business.
A little unfair

Start date and end date are the boxes you have to complete but, when you print the accounts off, they are "for the period ended .....".
Even if they're for a year.
Both the HMRC and CoHo site templates are riddled with such errors. "Directors" where there's only one director is another.
I would go with "Period Ended
I would go with "Period Ended xxx" as the page headers but have the period from and to noted in the P&L headings for the current figures and the "Year to xxx" over the comparatives.
Also the directors' report would specify the period the accounts covered (I presume we are talking limited company here).
