smp employee made redundant

smp employee made redundant

Didn't find your answer?

Client has made employee redundant, perfectly properly. She is on SMP - just the lower amount now, but will get the redundancy pay and any holiday pay in January. ACAS tell me I can get HMRC to take over the SMP payment, but just told me to ring the general HMRC number, and I dread waiting hours to speak to their best 16 year old.

Has anyone any knowledge of the process involved? Employer is not going out of business, but would of course have to suffer the 8% SMP cost going forward if I didn't do this.

ACAS is wrong

According to the HMRC guidance, an employer must continue to pay SMP to a qualifying employee after she has been made redundant.

Perhaps, you were speaking to ACAS's best 16 year old?

Thanks Euan

I had never heard of this one before, and it sounds as if there is a good reason for that!
Yes, these 16 year olds do get about a bit.
