Sole traders travel costs

Sole traders travel costs

Didn't find your answer?

When does a sole traders travel become regular?  Is it a month, a year or >24 mths as for an employee ( temporary workplace)?

I find this area very grey just now and am struggling?  I've asked a similar question before but I'm still struggling.

My client currently travels the same 250 miles each week for his sole trade to teach a class. This could stop tomorrow.  He travels this distance as that's where the work is.  He will teach this class where ever there is demand.  He'd prefer it to be much closer to home.

Would you allow it?

Warn Client

Hi.

It is a grey area.

I would continue claiming but warn the client that HMRC might challenge it if they ever review his files.

Insurance

Also, perhaps suggest to your client that they should take out some insurance against the accountancy costs involved in the event of an HMRC investigation - do you provide such insurance for your clients?
