Tax Software

Tax Software

Didn't find your answer?

I'd be interested to get some thoughts on this please.

As it is so highly rated, I have been looking at taxfiler to use as tax return software.  However, my practice is very small at the moment and any money I can save is also worthwhile.

To this extent, what would I be geting for a taxfiler subscription that I would not be getting straight from HMRC?  As far as I can see the returns are in the cloud, they provide calcuation, storage, print out and saving as PDF etc.

I'm just intrigued.  Why would I pay for a product that just re-organises on a page the questions that I am asked through HMRC online anyway?

I would suggest, above all else..

Reliability.

My experience of using the HMRC Basic Paye tools was that, it was a reasonable product, until a fairly simple glitch occurred. At that point and, given that the HMRC employers helpline were unable to assist, I moved across to Moneysoft, a change which I've never had a moments regret.

Whilst I have no personal experience of the tax return software which you mention I would imagine that it will be superior, in many respects, to that available (freely) from HMRC. Sometimes you get what you pay for?

PAYE definitely, tax not so sure...?

Definitely agree on the PAYE front, Moneysoft does a great job of simplifying and I have never regretted it.

It just seems sometime that tax return software simply replicated the list of questions that form part of a return, similar to the online return web pages on the HMRC site.  I just think I must be missing something, perhaps more comprehensive support than that on the HMRC helpline?
