Tax support services

Tax support services

Didn't find your answer?

Been looking at Tax Support networks such as N Ross Martin. I am ok on everyday tasks but reading this site I think goodness gracious me I did not know that.

No mention of that  in paper 6.

At the moment £30 quid a month is a bit daunting but do other members find it is worth paying for a monthly support service ?

Is so what are the cons and pros of various offerings ?

I had a call from Taxation Mag offering me a discounted sub service which I may take up because I like reading the queries and confirming  my lack of knowledge.

As always thanks a lot for any responses

... I know... because we worked together for a while. She worked for accountingweb a few years back as well. Whether you ask her for help will obviously depend on your type of clients and your own expertise - how many times you will be contacting her for advice.

But you will be surprised what you can pick up by the various articles placed onsite on accountingweb.

Here is me doing a bit of advertising here but articles written by the Associate editors (e.g me, Mark Lee, Steve Collins) are all collated under our own 'tags'. We look at the Any Answers questions asked and when we see a subject that is being asked about more than a couple of times we look to see whether there is an article to be written. So we keep our articles up to date and relevant.

My articles tend to be about Company Law (compliance; Companies House; corporate governance) and separately, about Property Tax.

Are there any courses you can attend in your area? In my area in Dorset there are excellent SOSCA courses priced at £48 a time. You dont have to pay every month neither do you have to attend each course so you can pick and choose which is most relevant to your knowledge and business. This Thursday I am attending a CIOT course a few miles away from my office - again low priced and you get to meet other tax people for a good moan about HMRC over a cup of coffee and a biscuit (CIOT arent made of money!)

I for one am delighted with the

Nicola Ross Martin website and, the monthly subscription is, in my view, my "comfort zone", as I work entirely on my own (and really should get out more)!

Obviously, AWeb is brilliant for a wealth of ideas and opinions and, some of the contributor's make one shudder at their wealth of knowledge. Never let it be said that the accountancy profession is boring.

Trying, yes!!

Do you offer fee protection?

Ours is via CCH and they throw in tax & VAT helplines as well, which have saved me many times over the years.

As an aside, following what JAADAMS says above, I've paid CCH for their online Tax/GAAP etc etc service for over 10 years as it covers just about everything, however I've noticed in the past couple of years that I'm using it less and less because of the quality of articles, info and advice on here, plus of course HMRC's website and manuals are very easy to read.

If you want easy to read and comprehensive text books, Tax Cafe's are really good.

Thank you for the recommendations!

Our site www.rossmartin.co.uk is basically acts like a personal intranet for smaller firms - so the idea is that you have a resource which is at least as good and often much better than anything you will find in a big firm and you can just tap in and use it when you like. I spend my life talking to firms about their tax problems so that keeps our content topical and as tax continually evolves we update the site.
