Is there an alternative to an alternate?

Is there an alternative to an alternate?

Didn't find your answer?

One issue that came out of a recent QAD review was the matter of having an alternate. I work remotely and am not based in the UK so do not therefore have a local network of accountants to tap into. Having looked into the matter, and having only 10 direct clients with the remainder of my fee base being outsourcing work I have come to the conclusion that to an set-up an alternate is somewhat excessive in relation to the direct client fee base that I have, especially given the practicalities of someone having to follow it through - ie digital records stored on personal computer etc. Hence I just wondered if there is an alternative solution - ie something to include in the engagement letter etc? I don't think there is an issue with the outsourcing work as I am not contracting directly with the end client however I just want to prevent the situation of leaving a client somewhat up the creek. Most of the direct clients work is one-off annual work, however I appreciate that whoever takes them on may want prior year records. So I just wanted to ask those of you out there who are in a similar position whether there is a more workable solution? Just want to try and tick off the issue prior to the next QAD review.

Many thanks for any suggestions.
