Tried any good apps lately?

Tried any good apps lately?

Didn't find your answer?

I'm in charge of the apps section of our annual Christmas gadget countdown and am looking for your help to spot cool new apps that I may have missed.

All legal/decent/honest suggestions considered for apps you have enjoyed this year. That includes oldies, but goodies that no phone should be without.

For example, would you share Nigel Mills MP's enthusiasm for Candy Crush?

Many thanks - and I hope you get the ones you want on the 25th!

If you don't mind shelling out for a sweater ...

You could try Digital Dudz.

Got mine ready for the party, heh.

Drunk mode

Well duh..

NFL Game Pass

The only way to be able to have quality time with your dog (and eldest cat who comes for a snuggle and to chew the corner of the iPad case) AND watch Miami lose.

App Recommendations

Companies House - surprisingly useful

Abukai for receipt scanning and indexing

GTasks and hiTask for task management

CamCard for scanning business cards and automatically importing them to Google Contacts

CamScanner for scanning documents

LastPass password manager

Google Docs for notes (has the advantage over Evernote that it syncs automatically)

Evernote for notes

Google maps for satnav and every type of journey planning (better than tfl for London travel!)

My Car Locator for finding where you left your car

Uber/Hailo/GetTaxi

Pushbullet for transferring anything between phone and computer. Particularly good for sending texts from your computer.

Tax Briefs for looking up rates and allowances on the go.

SMS Backup for backng up your SMSs to your email account. Great for clients who send you texts instead of emails.

FastConnect for picking up wifi in coffee shops

IFTT (If This Then That) for programming your phone to do certain things on the occurrence of certain events such as arriving home or being in a meeting)

Total Recall for recording phone calls

Telegram - secure version of WhatsApp

WeQ4U - avoids cost of 08 numbers and stops you having to wait on hold.

AutoGuard - films the road in front of you for insurance claims and disputes with police.

Tesco for grocery shopping

MyFitnessPal for monitoring those Xmas calories

The Guardian - Good for news but a bit right wing for me.

Surprised you get any work done - you're so busy playing on your bleedin' phone!

Some good one's in that list though, will have to take a look.

A few of my favourite apps

Flightradar24 - Track aircraft across the world.

MyFitnessPal - Search for (or scan the bar code) of the food you consume and enter the exercise that you do, to calculate how many calories you are adding or losing each day.

RunKeeper - Track the runs that you do.

Health app (built into iOS8 on iPhone 6) - Automatically monitors in the background the number of steps walked, distance walked / run and flights of stairs climbed per day, week, month and year.

Stocard - Scan in all of those store cards that you cram into your wallet.  The bar code of each card is stored on your phone.

Sky Map - Point your phone to the sky to find out the names of the constellations and planets that you are looking at.

iPlayer (on iPad) - I use it so much, that I hardly use my conventional TV.

Apps for tablets (or phones with big screens)

BBC iPlayer

4od

Netflix

Google Play TV and Movies

Some tablets, such as the Google Nexus can play films and TV programmes through your TV so you get to watch them on a bigger screen (not 4od though).
