UK Company and Australian Tax

UK Company and Australian Tax

Didn't find your answer?

Hi Guys,

Wondered if anyone has any knowledge on Australian tax?

I have a client who has been given a job in Australia but they currently have a UK business. At the moment, the UK business is as a sole trader but he is going to incorporate it. What I am trying to figure out is:-

a) If he takes a salary (directors remuneration) from the company, obviously as a non-uk resident, there would be no UK tax?

b) I would assume that the income he receives from the UK will be taxed in Australia? Foreign investments?

c) And if he takes dividends instead of remuneration, taxed the same as B above in Australia?

Or am I missing something?

TIA

Depends on your client's Australian visa status

What type of Australian visa will your client have?

Is he an Australian citizen?

It may well be that your client is being sponsored by an Australian company for a long term temporary residency visa under subclass 457.

Those who are tax resident in Australia holding a 457 visa are not subject to Aus tax on overseas source investment income - such as a divi from a UK limited company.

More information is required to establish preferred strategy.
