I am completing a VAT DIY self-build form for a client which is usually straight forward, however, in this case two people have done it as a joint venture in order to cut down on costs.
They have together, built two houses to be their main residences with one person occupying one property and the other occupying the second property. The majority of the invoices are in joint names.
My question is, do I need to complete a separate form for each individual, claiming 50% of the VAT on each?
In addition, it specifically states that copy invoices will not be accepted so am I best sending two claim forms with the one set of invoices?
Any advice in respect of this would be much appreciated as the clients have brought it in with only two weeks to go until the deadline so I could do without, if possible, it being knocked back.

The form indicates
"Remember, you can only claim for building materials and you must send in the original invoices. The invoices should be in your name. If they are not in your name, you must explain why. "
So, your client needs to explain and given the materials need to have been incorporated into the building and need to be identified on the invoice, the tricky bit is going to be arguing that say exactly 50% of a bag of aggregate went into one building and 50% into the other.
I would suspect this is not going to be the most straightforward claim!!
