VAT Flat Rate Scheme

VAT Flat Rate Scheme

Didn't find your answer?

I prepare VAT returns for a client involved in building industry who is in Flat Rate Scheme.

He has just brought sales invoices in for me to prepare Return for quarter to end of March. Most of the invoices are zero rated.

Will HMRC accept a "backdated" request to leave the scheme as at say 9th January (when first zero rated invoice raised) or must the request be for a date within the current accounting period. VAT notice 733 para 12.1 is not entirely clear.

Hopefully

Per HMRC: "Yes. Under Regulation 55M(1)(g) of the VAT Regulations 1995, a business can withdraw from the scheme voluntarily. Regulation 55Q(1)(e) then allows us to agree an earlier (or later) date than the date the business notifies us in writing of its decision to leave the scheme."

See HMRC FRS Manual at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/frsmanual/FRS4100.htm

YES BUT...

Thanks for the link

Apart from paying less VAT what other reasons could be given for requesting retrospective .withdrawal
