VAT on insurance claims

VAT on insurance claims

Didn't find your answer?

Hi,

Could some kind person please explain to me if it is possible to claim input VAT on purchases of goods and services for work a business had to carry out on another person's property?  The work was done because the company was liable for water leakage from an office above the property and an insurance claim has been made.  The insurer will only reimburse the net amount.

I thought this is a relevant business expense.  I thought that the fact the work had to be carried out on non company property was irrelevant here.  Maybe I am wrong.  What are the guiding principles and do you know the relevant areas I need to refer to in the VAT legislation?

Many, many thanks in advance for helping me out with your knowledge.

Kind Regards

Pahl
