I want to change a client's Vat quarter end dates and thought that I was able to do this online.
Looking at the agent's Vat page, I can see that I can change the frequency (e.g. from quarterly to monthly) but not the stagger. Is it possible, or do I need to write to the Vat office?
Many thanks.

Hi there
HMRC have become more awkward about this as some taxpayers have altered staggers to obtain a tax advantage and so HMRC do not have to agree, but usually do if it is to align to a year end.
Because of this, I think you need to write (to the Wolverhampton office).
VAT qe dates
I would recommend you to use the VAT 484 form, ask your client to sign the declaration. A letter can also work however needs to be signed by the director/owner.
Let me know if you require any further assistance.
Thanks
Beat me to it

It goes to Grimsby - details at the end of the form.
Thanks for the correction
It goes to Grimsby - details at the end of the form.
I stand corrected - forgot about that form. I am 'old school' though! I missed too the fact that Grimsby are involved too. Must be really exciting there now, what with the fish, VAT groups AND changes in circumstances!
Do it online - easy!
Here's the process step by step...
1. Select client
2. Change registration details then next
3. VAT return frequency then next
4. Answer question regular refunds or not then next
5. You now have a choice of VAT quarters to choose from
The difficult bit is misleading terminology (*) - you have to select "change frequency" (even though frequency change is not required!) to get to step 5 above.
(*) Problem is that it is another very recent example of HMRC using low-competency programmers, so a misleading dialogue appears on screen (instead of "change VAT periods" or "change VAT stagger dates" you are presented with "change frequency").
