Vat rate
Our clients undertake window replacement and upgrades in old victorian houses, many of the windows are 100 to 250 years old. They also draft proof the windows. Our clients feel they may be able to charge a vat rate of just 5% our view this should be 20%
Any thoughts on this would be most welcome.

... my clients often give me bad VAT advice too. I'd sue them if I thought the courts would find that they owed me a duty of care.
This "feeling" of theirs. Anything to substantiate it at all?
It's not a renovation or alteration (and an alteration to a protected building might even be zero-rated). It's a repair in my opinion. Replacing windows does not, by itself, a renovation or alteration make.

What's a renovation? Google says it's to "Restore (something old, esp. a building) to a good state of repair".....
