Vat registration

Vat registration

Didn't find your answer?

I have some further queries with regard to VAT registration. I originally read on the HMRC website that you need to register 30 days prior to hitting the 79k threshold including all turnover that has not been subject to paye ie a business owner who is also an employee of another firm. I have been asked to prepare the accounts of a friend who recently took over a Public house & although his personal turnover is not 79k in the past 12 months  he took over the pub as a going concern & the turnover of the pub will be. Now I have read on the HMRC website that when you take over a going concern any previous turnover of the premises in the last 12 months is taken into the equation to come to the 79k turnover threshold. He has been in the pub for almost month a now & has obviously not reached the 79k. I still think he needs to be registered for VAT taking into the previous owners turner. Please can some confirm if this is the case. I am going to ask my friend to contact the HMRC himself or designate me as his representative so things like can be cleared up at the start. I would appreciate any information people can offer. All account I have done in the past have been for going concerns so non of this threshold malarkey has come up before as they have always registered before I started the preparing the accounts.

TOGC

For a TOGC to be effective, the purchaser must be VAT registered anyway.
