I did a VAT registration for a small Ltd Co which started trading on 05/01/2015. HMRC wrote back and asked for further information, which included proof that the Ltd Co is trading. Client filled in the forms and included a copy of his current contract and an invoice to prove that the business was indeed trading.
I've just received a letter to refuse the VAT registration as there was insufficient evidence that the business was trading... HUH?
What else can we do? (I have double checked that the contract is in the name of the Ltd Co and not the individual)
Thanks

Ask for a local review of the decision and see if you can provide additional information. If it is a "good" contract they should allow the registration application.
Interesting. Do you know what value was given for expected annual turnover on the original VAT1 and is the client expecting to be in regular VAT refund positions?
