Seeking advice: VAT Registration Woes - Invoice issue

Seeking advice: VAT Registration Woes - Invoice...

Didn't find your answer?

Hi,

I hope you guys can help me. I am an online retailer (eBay, eCommerce) coming up to the VAT limit - I have about £20,000 in sales to go.

Most of my items are dropshipped. Sometimes stock errors happen and when they do, I'd rather fulfill the order than cancel (especially on eBay due to their strict rules). This means sourcing from another supplier, which tends to be Amazon.

As Amazon shows prices, I hide them by selecting the gift option.

Amazon does not issue VAT invoices for gifts, and as far as I can see through googling they are not required to do so. I have asked them to, and they said they won't.

Amazon does show an invoice which shows VAT breakdown, however it says "this is not a vat invoice" on it.

Now my question is, how do I handle this in terms of VAT records? I did hear something about simplified receipts being okay for items under £250, but I can't find where I read this. Most items I sell are under £250, the majority under £50.

Are these simplified non-vat invoices Amazon supplies acceptable?

Another question I have:

If I opt for the flat-vat scheme, do I have to pay the flat rate on sales generated from books and other 0% VAT items? About 60% of my sales are made up of 0% VAT Items.

Flat Rate Question

The Flat Rate Scheme covers all your sales, including standard rated and zero rated. Your turnover for FRS purposes includes all your sales. You will therefore need to do your arithmetic before joining the scheme.

Amazon aren't the principal in the sale but merely a fulfillment house. The goods are being sold to you by a third party, therefore Amazon can't and will not issue you with a tax invoice.
