vat return

vat return

Didn't find your answer?

Hi

I filed a vat return online on 29th of March online, still receive a penalty that I have submitted it as a paper return on 7th April, I have not even posted anything to HMRC. Has anyone else got this issue?

Thanks

No idea

You need to ask HMRC for an explanation - an print off your receipt for the electronic return.

Did you pay on time ?

VAT quarter?

What was the end date of your VAT quarter?

If it was 28th February and you filed online on 29th March, you were in time as the deadline is 7th April for online filing, with payment by direct debit being taken on 10th April.  As Lion says, print off the submission receipt and appeal.

Just to update,

Just to update,

I appealed their decision to charge me £100 penalty despite submitting online return. I have so far received 4 letters of apology with contents of cancellation of penalty and reimbursement of my postage expense. I asked for a postage expense to be paid for wrongly being accused of not doing the right thing and have been told that instead of the expense incurred of £2.70 they ll reimburse me £5.

Claim of that petty sum wont make me any richer, but just wanted to be a pain to them...so my first success story with HM revenue !!!

Good result

It's not always wasting your time to complain.
