I am in transition from one lap top to another and have downloaded a fresh version of Vt accounts.
i know that the licence key is on the original invoice but that is in long term storage and not easily accessable today.
Does anyone know where i can find the licence key within the software as i do not want to use one of my five annual questions for this?
Many thanks,

5 Questions
I had no idea that was even a rule to be honest! I've come up against this many a time and just always called them up to ask for it to be emailed over. I've certainly never been told i've exceeded by maximum number of questions for the year but then again I don't really call them for anything else so that could be why.
I'm sure VT won't be so petty as to class that as a 'question' anyway.
What's so difficult that you need to ask 5 questions a year? I'm not even sure I have called once in several years. Don't forget there is a VT discussion group on AWeb.
I can't imagine this question would be regarded as technical help, just a basic customer services issue, like asking when your subscription was due.
eg.
'Good morning could I speak to customer services, please?'
'Certainly, sir, I will put you through . . '
'Hello, is that customer services?'
'Yes it is . . .'
'I wonder if you could help me with something?'
'Yes, of course, sir . . .'
'Have I come through to the right department to help me with my licence key?'
'Yes, you have, but I must remind you that you have now used up 4 questions on this call. Would you like to continue?'
'I suppose so, but are you really telling me that those 4 questions count against my annual entitlement?'
'Yes, sir, I'm afraid so, and that is now 5. Goodbye, sir.'

Didn't you receive an email from them quoting your customer number and license key when you purchased/renewed the license?
VT licence key
I am one of the very early customer of VT. No problem with them. You do not have to
worry about you 5 queries. In my opinion and experience, you will find that your query
re: Licence key will count as one more query. VT are helpful and very pleasant in dealing
with the matter like yours, besides other. Further as said by Andy, there is VT discussion
group on web.

I believe the 5 questions a year is
To stop people using the helpline as a consultancy service without first trying to think about it.
I asked vt a question last week and as always they were very helpful. In 10 years I have perhaps asked then a handful of questions.
Thinking about it, perhaps 5 questions a year is a good way to promote my free general tax advice help, without it getting abused.
As to your questoon, I had a similar issue a few years ago and VT emailed me a new user licence key. It was very easy to deal with.
VT License Key
If you email us at [email protected] we are always happy to send you your license key, this will not count as one of your five support incidents.

Full marks to VT
I have a client who purchased VTT+ in 2011 and wants to move it to another machine, but can't find the licence key. I came across this oldish thread yesterday when searching online to see if there was a way of seeing the licence key in the software the same way you can see the customer number. Turns out that you can't, so I pinged off a quick email to VT this afternoon asking for the key and back came the answer within 15 minutes. No rubbish about 'they aren't paying for support' just a swift resolution to to my client's problem.
