W8-BEN - Claim of Tax Treaty Benefits

W8-BEN - Claim of Tax Treaty Benefits

Didn't find your answer?

We are a UK marketing service company. We have provided our marketing service in the UK for a customer in the US.

We have now been asked to complete a W-8BEN form. I have read a few comments online about how a UK service company should not really need to complete a W-8BEN, but as our customer wants this in order to pay I have completed it.

I have sent the form but I never ticked anything in Part II "Claim of Tax Treaty Benefits". I did not think this was applicable as we are providing our service from the UK. I thought this was more to do with dividends or interest, and we have no treaty to claim against since I our service is not subject to withholding tax.

Does anybody know if I should have completed Part II, or was I correct to leave it all blank?

Thank you very much :-)

Have a look back at advice I was given on Aweb in the past

Although this post was about another form, there are plenty of answers about W-8 BEN.

US Tax Form W-9 was the title of my posting
