I'm not sure if this has come up before but I recently incorporated a new company for a client. The founder/Director then received an official-looking bill from the "Central Register of Companies" asking for a filing fee £190. It seems to be a clever con (if there is such a thing) aimed at newly formed companies.
So beware!

Quite common. Tends to happen in waves. Company eventually gets chased by trading standards and closed down, then another reappears. All based on same sort of scam. It used to be fake data protection registration too.
Just make sure when you setup a company that you advise clients that all company correspondence should be sent to you, and they should not pay for anything that they have not specifically agreed with you.

The companies mail preference service for a £200 fee (special introductory rate!), payable in used £5 notes, to be left in an unmarked Tesco's carrier bag in the telephone box outside Liverpool Lime Street station.
