Email just in:

Dear sir/ma,

Hello my name is X, i am looking to gain an experience in an accounting firm .I have a degree in Accountancy and Economics also started CIMA but I realised I need to be practical about by career too so this why I thought work experience is very important. My CV is also attached to this

email.

I would be very grateful to hear from you.

 Thanks X

My response:

Hi X

Thanks for the email but I’m afraid I’m not hiring at this point in time.

A few points though if I may:

1.       It’s a bit rude to let other recipients see names of other firms you’ve emailed (it doesn’t look very professional).  For instance, you emailed x.com but copied me in.  You should really email yourself then BCC everybody else, that way nobody knows who else has been approached.  Or even better, do a personalised email for each firm and address it to the owner instead of sir/ma.

2.       If you do have to use this it should read Sir / Madam not sir/ma.

3.       The cover email needs work, poor wording and punctuation.

Hopefully making those few small tweaks will help get your foot in the door somewhere.

Best of luck with your career…..

'X' was lucky to get a reply

I would have just binned it.

Appalling grammar too, and I'm useless at grammar so it has to be really bad for me to notice!

Not rude at all

You took the time to reply with some constructive criticism on how to approach potential employers.

I'd have sent an email similar to yours. However, I would have 'replied to all'.

Perfect reply

Didn't leave them hanging with no response, plus helpful advice. I think too many people treat work related e-mails the same as casual e-mails. I think a nice handwritten letter shows more dedication in trying to find a job.

Spelling

Surely the two letter word "my" can't be too difficult to get right ?

50% right isn't bad for most of the job applications I get nowadays!

I know somebody who would snap them up and have them churning out accounts and tax returns by the end of the week.

It was my good deed for the day Andy.

On Monday night I stuck an old computer monitor on Gumtree.  I had an email at 9pm from a chap saying he was on his way, would be about an hour (on the bus) but needed it urgently as his 11 yr old daughter had a project due in within the next day or two and theirs had just packed up.

I told him to get off the bus immediately, picked him up from where he was and delivered father/monitor home.  I also told him to give the money to his daughter so long as the project went well.

I think i'm good till Xmas now, Santa best bloody see what's going on down here!!

a bit rude. lol.

But then again the e-mail was so poorly done it deserved a blunt response. If you really want a job make an effort!!

Malware
Am I the only one that thinks an email like this with an attachment shouldn't be touched? I think you're all missing the true purpose of this email.
