What box on tax return

What box on tax return

Didn't find your answer?

Client has sent this:

The contribution is £166.67 per month gross which has been contributed each month from 24th May 2010.
The contribution net of basic rate tax relief is £133.34 per month and net of higher rate tax is £100 per month. As a higher rate tax payer I therefore am entitled to the additional £33.34 per month.

I am unsure what figure to put in the tax return and which box.

Do you not know the answer to your client's question?

Easy One

That's an easy question.  I'm surprised that a professional would seek the answer to that on a public forum.

...is the gentle touch.  Just hope that PNL doesn't spot this thread.

Dear Client

You should enter £2,000 in box 1 of page TR4 of your (2014) tax return. Your basic rate tax band (£32,011 for 2013/14) will be extended to allow for your personal pension contributions thereby giving you further relief at the rate of 20%. Should you wish me to prepare future tax returns for you my fees will be around £70 per annum. Yours sincerely.

Eighteen years into Self Assessment and this crops up.

May 10?

I note you say he or whoever has been contributing since May 10.

So you might want to consider if any action is needed for years prior to 13/14?

Also if you are in practice have you not got software to do returns? It makes it much easier as you would just find the entry on the software menu for pensions and it sorts out which box number for you. If you do not have software you have missed 13/14 deadline for a paper return.

Unless they submit online through HMRC...

For prior years

you/he will need to make an Overpayment Relief claim
