What to follow AAT with?

What to follow AAT with?

Didn't find your answer?

Hi, I'm currently coming to the end of my AAT course and am wondering what to move on to next. I would really like to go down the Tax path and eventually become CTA chartered tax advisor, however I'm not sure if anyone has been able to skip straight from AAT to CTA or is it necessary to take something such as ATT before hand, also does anybody know how long the ATT course would be for a qualified AAT member and also how long the CTA course would usually last?

Thanks

Have a look at the CTA website

I don't think AAT gives you an exemption so you would need to take ATT first - or ICAEW/ACCA

Do ATT first

ATT used to be the first part of the CTA exams apparently. Many of the people who passed those exams found the next level up too difficult, so CTA split itself into 2 and the ATT was born.

ATT exams are tougher than AAT, really good for someone who wants to do tax for a living, and well worth it just for the education factor.

You have lost nothing if you want to go on to the CTA exams. Doing ATT you get a few exemptions for AAT, and taking 1 paper every 6 months I think it took me 2 years to pass ATT.

Many of the students I met at the exams were taking 4 at a time, but they seemed to be bursting with more brains than I possess! So you've got to do what's right for you.

So I would get ATT before considering CTA.
