Where does Patent Box go on the Corporation Tax return?

Where does Patent Box go on the Corporation Tax...

Didn't find your answer?

We have one client with a post March 2013 year end and a Patent Box claim to go on the Corporation Tax Return.

Unfortunately our regular software (Digita Corporation Tax) doesn’t include Patent Box in their standard Corporation Tax software, so it’s necessary to buy their Advanced Corporatioin Tax module. The cost is disproportionate for just one tax return. Digita have no plans to bring Patent Box into their standard corporation tax software.

With some luck and marketing we will get more clients that make Patent Box claims in the next year or so, to spread the software cost!

In the meantime we are looking at alternative methods of dealing with this, and are struggling to find how and where it goes on the CT600 or additional pages.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks.

No Update
From what I can find online The CT600 hasn't changed to include a section specifically for the patent box.

http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20120405165952/http://www.hmrc...

3 Trading and professional profits
This box is for trade profits in Part 3 Corporation Tax Act (CTA) 2009, less any income
arising from trades carried on wholly outside the UK (previously assessed under Case V).
Enter the total of all the profits in box 3 (including any share of partnership profit
and taking into account any Patent Box deductions)

Thank you

Thanks Merlyn (second question of mine you've replied to in the past few days!).

So basically we'll amend the profits manually, and add an explanation in the notes. If necessary we'll include an attachment.

That's what the information I found online would seem to indicate. I've just had a read of the CCH book on the patent box and there is nothing in there regarding how to show the expenditure on the CT600.

On the HMRC site for the patent box It gives the contact details for the R&D units, so if you want to be 100% could be worth giving your local office a call just to confirm.  I speak to them a lot and they are always really helpful.
