As some of you may remember, AccountingWEB held a member meet up in London in June 2013.
It's been a while, so we thought we would hold another one - this time in a different location. The purpose of this is to get to meet our members face-to-face and have a chance to chat offline.
We're aiming to hold it in June and again, as last time, it will be in partnership with Clear Books (but separate from their own meetups they hold).
Firstly we're wondering, how many of you would be interested?
And secondly, would any of you be interested in attending it in Birmingham? If not, could you please let us know where your preference is? No guarantees we can hold it there but we will definitely consider it.
As for who's going, it would be myself and potentially some others on the team at AccountingWEB.
So, let us know if you'd like to go and where!

Thames Valley for me
Would love to meet up but can not justify a 'day trip' in my busy schedule!
PS. Thank you so much for not saying 'hey' or 'awesome' ;)
Birmingham
Hey,
Birmingham would be the best location for me, if I were to attend. Awesome!
London, Birmingham, anywhere
It doesn't matter where it is. I'm a free wheelin' dude and like to travel.
Midlands - centre of the country
There are various conference / meeting venues in the centre of the UK - the Midlands - and it doesn't have to be at the very expensive (high rent = non-viable) NEC. Some football clubs host events of this nature (I have attended tax/accounts related seminars / events at Birmingham FC and Walsall FC in recent years). I recently noticed that FSB in the West Midlands are using a former railway station in Wolverhampton for a meeting later this month.
.
Great ideas DMG, thanks. Last time we held it in a rooftop terrace in a bar/restaurant in London.
We were thinking of a similar setting again. So once we have the physical place nailed down, we can start to look at venues.
Hilton Leeds, Sky Lounge. My workplace is just around the corner, not that it would influence my recommendation ;-)
interested
I couldn't do Birmingham.
London-based, so anywhere in (reasonable) commuting distance for an evening.
So, a tax deductible holiday on the company
So, a tax deductible holiday at the expense of the practice!
I have my 25th Wedding anniversary later this year so a two night stay in say Venice, Florence or Paris would maybe have worked, but not in June, the other half cannot take holidays during term time so I am afraid we cannot venture away from the frozen North irrespective of what attractions are on offer.
Now I do also fancy a trip to Oxford some time so please consider it re 2016 and try either early July or early August (I usually go abroad last 2.5 weeks of July )
Anyway got to dash, of to the holiday house tomorrow (Not so sunny Sweden) and still one vat return to complete.
Lake District please
I live in a small Lake District market town with some friendly real ale pubs. If you're driving though tek care of sheep on't road & remember the Lake District stonewalls at the roadside can be a tad unforgiving of driver error.
I can be free around six . . .

Do you have the obligatory Labrador sleeping under the desk while you work?

Cross Country Rail
With rail services being what they are, it's easier for me to get to London than Birmingham, starting from Newcastle.
London
Count me in, Birmingham's 50 miles closer for me but same travel time as getting to London because the trains cross country are awful and the traffic is horrendous. Always think Birmingham is just like London, but without ANY of the good bits.
So I'd vote for London, it's only 100 miles away.
London
I can make anywhere in London. First Tab should extend his horizons to central London at least.
North for me
I would go to Leeds if there was a Northern meeting (if it wasn't in Newcastle).
I am also coming to the smoke for the Accountex conference as the place will be full of accountants
Why not arrange something for the Wednesday night, so I can see some of your Southern hospitality
Island paradise?
but I suspect it's in vein :)Why don't you have your own meeting?
I am not actually in the Isle of Wight. I just thought it would be an awesome part of the country for a meet up. But if Rachael's buying me dinner...
Wouldn't the Scilly Isles be warmer?

Kent - Yes!
Any chance Kent?
Preference
1. Canterbury - great place for a night out.
2. Ashford - very convenient for me and ok place.
3. Folkestone - very convenient for me and on the whole crap.

Bondi Beach perhaps? Central Park maybe...
I suppose I can dream if AccountingWEB is footing the bill!
Perhaps it can be joint with AccountingWEB USA and we can all get together in Vegas?
Why keep knocking
unqualified accounting clerks ? They have to make a living like usat the bottom of the sea perhaps. The prfect venue for unqualified accounting clerks.
If it's in Birmingham, we will all have to catch public transport. If we took cars we would have to drive home on the rims.
my home town
Those of you dissing my home town of Birmingham have clearly never been. Birmingham competes favourably in many ways against London given we do not get the funding that London does. So Brum all the way. Bosting :)
You must live in the posh bit

Its 'bostin'
Not sure where the posh bit is though ;o)
not dissing Birimingham
It is a vibrant city, but it is easier to get to London from Glasgow than it is to Birmingham on public transport.
Being serious for a second
I can't see any meeting in the south east not being in central London.
Bucket and spade
No-one fancy a trip to the Essex/Suffolk Sunshine Coast then? No takers? What's not to love, ice cream, stick of rock, dip in the sea, possible hepatitis B, guaranteed hypothermia?
Why?
So many suggestions, thanks everyone. So far it's looking like Birmingham is a good contender - I'd love to be able to do a meet up in every location but since we did one in London last time it's only fair we look at a different part of the country!
How easy is it for everyone to get to Leeds, as I also see that mentioned?
Why be fair?
Leeds
There's nowt wrong wi' Leeds. The coal/bath interface situation ceased some years ago and we even have our own Harvey Nics.
Just off to exercise t'ferret!
