Why do they have to put one address down, that you write to, only to find that they then transfer the correspondence to the previous contact office??
Sent a fax regarding a Certficate of Residency to Norwich on 18th Oct. Client has not had anything, duly enquires to us - we contact Norwich to be told that Ipswich are currently dealing with post to the 17th Oct as of today!!
Told to ring back Norwich in a couple of days if nothing heard from client (again) and they will then send an email to Ipswich to chivvy!
Sheesh!

Why - Incompetence of course
Absolutely typical of HMRC, this has been going on for a while although some places are better at clearing the backlog of mail than others.
My fear is that those who DO clear their backlog get sent the mail from the other offices to sort out. This would be self defeating, but I suspect it does happen.
Remember in HMRC Management, no good deed goes unpunished.
I have been told that all corespondence is scanned into the HMRC system and is then dealt with by anyone nationwide who has a spare momnet from upsetting accountants
Speaking to an agent account manager
recently and, she EXPRESSLY told me to fax some copy Forms P87, to her and, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES, was I to post them!
Says it all, really?
Any respect (and fear) which I used to have, for HMRC, evaporated a long time ago. A sizeable lottery win and I'd be off tomorrow. General incompetence and lack of training (within HMRC) makes the day go along the lines of; 1 step forward and 2 steps back.
I'm pleased to hear however, that the various bodies are making their feelings known to HMRC which I'm sure will bring high standards of efficiency (no doubt by 2032). Cynical, moi?
All post to Liverpool
Yesterday the agent help line told me to address a letter to PAYE and Self Assessment, PO Box 1970, Liverpool, L75 1WX.
She was quite specific and had a timetable for replies. If my letter is received by 11 November it will be replied to by 2 December.
