Wills, Probate & IHT Planning Services

We are a small practice and majority of our clients are individuals and small businesses. A few of them have property portfolio and investments which they wish to transfer to their children in the future. We are often asked whether we prepare wills & provide IHT planning services, but as we do not have experience in this area, we normally forward these queries to solicitors known to us. Our clients have experienced that the fee charged by these solicitors are sometimes quite costly. Therefore, we are thinking about providing these services in-house. This is an area new to us and therefore want to seek some advice from practitioners in this field.

We are planning to purchase some sort of franchise which provides us the technical ability and back-up and we pay them the franchise fee. Is there anything out there of this type (e.g., Tax-Assist Accountants?). This way we will be able to retain our clients and give them complete service in-house in a cost effective and efficient way. Many of these clients have straightforward tax affairs and a will prepared for the husband could quite mirror that for the wife. We also found that no will is prepared by a majority of elderly people. If we can provide a cost-effective service, we will be adding extra value to our services.  Any suggestions/recommendations or sharing of experiences in this matter would be quite appreciated.
