Difficult

and you have my sympathy.

You are in a difficult place, a long way from qualified and with (I assume) little practical experience. Job centres may get you a placement but whether it may not be in the area you want and it could take for ever. Try volunteering with a local charity - one that employs people and that has a reasonable income - they need finance staff, even if only a book-keeper and usually under estimate what's involved. Get in as a volunteer - you may not get experience in that area (finance) to start with but with luck you can ingratiate yourself with those that are in charge even if it's only by an ability to manage cash!

I'ts been my experience that charity staff employed to do charity work, are never interested in the nuts and bolts of accountancy, so you would have an advantage.

Google 'voluntary action' or Contact a local CVS (community voluntary service company) to start with.
