Working abroad then returning to the UK

Working abroad then returning to the UK

Didn't find your answer?

If a client has worked as an employee in Qatar and is returning to the UK next week after less than 2 years working abroad, does the whole of that income have to be taxed in the UK?

Also, are there any allowable expenses that can be claimed against the income?

Any help or guidance would be most appreciated.

Assumptions

Assuming lots of things.

1) Assuming that he started work in Qatar after 6 April 2011, and he remains UK tax-resident, yes.

2) Apart from the expenses that a UK employee could potentially claim, unlikely for there to be any, unless the individual went on assignment to Qatar from the UK.

Holiday...

Being absent from UK for a complete tax year avoids paying tax in the uk if duties performed overseas.
