Quickbooks 2005 - latest update crash

Didn't find your answer?

Quickbooks prompted an update today as I logged on (Accountant 2005). Let it progress. Then it told me my colleague who uses Pro 2005 to upgrade. Having completed the necessary upgrades QG is crashing everytime we try to open the company file.

We have been unable to get through to Intuit (surprise surprise!). Have used the Programmes Manager's email in another string but wondered if any of you have hit the problem yet and if there is an answer to it.

Thanks in anticipation..

A further correction received from Quickbooks
"Just heard from support - this solution has worked in all but 2 cases so far:

Changed the steps slightly!

Make a manual copy of your data file before attempting the following: When starting QB, hold the CRTL key down, this should open QB without a company file open, choose to create a new company and once that is opened, close it, select your company file to open. QB will either crash at this point or run through a data file update. "

Hope no one else had the fruitless morning I had. I look forward to receiving Intuit's comments to such a large scale disaster as appears to have happened this time.

We have had no further problems after re-installing from the payroll service May 05 CD.

Similar Problem
I had a similar problem, in that a data file became corrupted immediately after installing a QB update yesterday. Spent most of the morning on the phone to Intuit (0845 number, so they make money from my call) before getting it resolved. Had to re-reconcile three months of bank transactions.

I know this will not be any help; I just think Intuit's awful service should be publicised.

And after a lot of hassle an answer....
Finally got in touch wby phone with Quickbooks. They advised us to reinstall from our previous payroll service upgrade (which luckily was on CD). Also suggested that we did not need thid upgrade, but of course automatic update, which Intuit suggest using, did not state this. It does appear to be a problem so if prompted to upgrade I would tread warily. I have also just (as typing this) received a response from the programmes manager. See text below:

"We are currently working to provide a solution to this issue, however, in the interim these are the current work arounds:

Make a manual copy of your data file before attempting the following: When starting QB, hold the CRTL key down, this should open QB without a company file open, select a company file to open whilst holding down the ALT key - this should open the company file without any windows displaying. QB will either crash at this point or run through a data file update.

If QB crashes, then please reinstall using the May payroll update CD (on all machines running QB) you (hopefully) have in your possession and ensure that upon running QB you turn off the auto update setting and do not install any web updates until you receive the R8 CD which I will send to you.

Apologies for the inconvenience - some machines here have updated without issue but others have not and as soon as we have further information I will let you know."

Hope this helps any other users out there.

Seen this question before
try serach but

redo the updates , but remember to use the rest button under options as this clears the files and reloads.

try loading the sample file as well Port Meadows or whatever.

you may also want to check your memory as it is quit hungry
