I have QuickBooks Accountant 2005. Can I use a file created in QuickBooks Simple Start 2006?

No difference?
It seems that QB2005 will open a QB2006 file, and vice versa.
With no other obvious feature upgrades, I cannot see any reason for upgrading this year...
Quickbooks new year
I have never used QB - but I am surprised that a subsequent year is not easy to create. We had a similar challenge with our previous payroll programme: we were willing to purchase the new year's file - but did not want to buy the compulsory "support". We then changed providers to that of our accounting package. This is so easy to create a subsequent, or indeed previous, year's file thus: Tools / Financial Year Utilities / Create a file for the new year; all creditor, debtor and account balances are transferred forward automatically. Therefore any programme which is not simple to use should not be considered or is ill-designed.- and re-issued annually to enhance revenue streams without major usability upgrades or innovation(s).
Very unlikely
I haven't specific experience with these editions but the principle has always been no...
A 2006 version will open with any other 2006 version (provided same updates installed and with, depending on versions, possible loss of features.
2006 will only open 2005 after updating the data file which renders it useless then for 2005.
2005 won't open 2006 or later.
Yes I think you can
I started a new company file today in QB accountant 2006 and I am able to open it with the 2005 version of QB.
In the past you were not able to go back a version but it seems that you can with 2005.
Cheers
