Q/Books 2006
According to Intuit, QuickBooks 2006 will be supported until a new version is produced with multi-currency. The same goes for payroll, if you have it installed.

I experimented with MS Office Accounting Professional but did not like the e-mail version of the forms and without programming qualifications did not bother to modify it.

Switch off Automatic Updates
I have clients who use SimpleStart 2006,and I have been using their files on my Accountant version 2005. Unfortunately, the recent 2006b update made the two versions incompatible, so my clients now need to upgrade to 2008 if they want me to amend their QB files. I assume this is deliberate on the part of Intuit.

I have therefore told all my other clients to switch off automatic updates.

QuickBooks Pro 2006 up for grabs.
I have a copy of QuickBooks Pro 2006 still sealed and in the box if you’re interested. I got it when I joined the professional advisors program but never managed to offload it. Make me a decent offer and you can have it.

You can mail me at joy at joyandco dot co dot uk. (change the "at" and "dot" to "@" and "." obviously).

Regards

Joy

You're right!
You're right - it is the US version but as I'm not VAT registered and run a very simple business it doesn't matter to me.

I've done a test though. I set up a company that charges sales tax and called it VAT. Then I set up a new expense code in liabilities and called it Purchase VAT - just like Sage does. This means that sales invoices show VAT at the current rate and VAT can be separated on payments.

You can try this or pay the £39.95 for the UK version download.

Free Quickbooks
I got it by going to the Innuit quickbooks site, selecting products, simple start and downloading the free version. You can also type 'quickbooks simple start' into whatever search engine you use and it should show you there the free download version.

I also downloaded the Microsoft free accounting package. That is much more comprehensive but I found it to be rather unwieldy for a small simple business model.

Just a thought . . .

Would it be worth considering Microsoft Office Accounting instead?

The Express version is a free download.

See the AWEB article here.

Quickbooks Simple Start
I don't know how sophisticated you need your accounts to be, but at the moment Quickbooks are offering Simple Start as a free download. It has all the essentials - Sales, Purchases, Bank, Nominal, products. Ive downloaded it and find it very good for a simple business.

QuickBooks 2006
You can still buy this from intuit, just tell them you want 2006 because you use multi-currency. However, they will charge you the same amount as for 2008, so if you don't need multi-currency you may as well buy 2008!

Quickbooks 2006 will be £250 (including postage and discount)

I can do something better with Quickbooks 2008 if that helps.

The support for 2006 version may be drop by the end of 2009.

Please send me an e-mail if you want to discuss a better price for the 2008 version.

Quickbooks
You can get it from me.

The price for 2006 is quite similar to 2008, but I can offer you a discount.

I do not know whether or not you want the payroll included as well.
