A client has emailed me a zipped Quickbooks file. I have tried and tried but cant get it to open - each time I get a message saying (although it has a QBW extension) it is either not a Quickbooks file or else it is damaged (latter seems unlikely as client has zipped and sent it 3 times). I'm not particularly IT-literate, so can anyone offer any suggestions as to why I might be having problems and how I can open the file successfully?
Thanks,
Alison Cook

??
i concur with barrie , basically if it has been backed up then it cannnot be further concentrated.
if it has a .qbb suffix it has to be restored to the a version of QB that is at least as recent as the one it was backed up on.
it is possible that if it is included with other files in winzip or stuffit say then these files will have to be extracted using the apporp software before restoring.
same thing applies if it is an unbacked up file .qbw it will need extracting before opening.
large QB files do sometimes get corrupted when being emailed so also try another email address you might have access to.
Check the software versions
Are you sure your version and the client's version have compatible file structures?
How to open a zipped quickbooks file
To open a quickbooks file sent to you - you must use the restore function in the file menu in quickbooks itself.
You must generally also be using the same or a later version of the software.
However, you can only reopen files with a .qbb extension.
Did your client back up the file which will automatically give the file a .qbb extension which they then zipped or just zip the .qbw file. If the latter I dont think you will be able to open it.
Hope this helps
