Quickbooks so slow, it has almost ground to a halt

Quickbooks so slow, it has almost ground to a halt

Didn't find your answer?

 Hi All

I have an issue with Quickbooks and looking at various forums it seems I am not alone.  I have been using it for years and have generally been very happy with it / recommended it to clients etc.  All my files are small - have limited transactions.  My computers are brand new - having upgraded them to try and deal with the issue.  It was working fine until the upgrade end of April / early May.

I am using it with a network attached storeage device, which may complicate the issue but tried moving it to the server and it made no difference.  There is not a single aspect of it that operates at an exceptable pace, but 4 times out of every five the file won't open and backing up that used to take c 30 seconds now takes in excess of an hour.

Has anyone experienced the same and found a solution.

Thanks for listening - Caroline

We have the same problem. I noticed that it happened after the last QB's update. I thought about re-installing the software but it is time consuming.

Local machine

I thought Intuit recommended to run QuickBooks on a local machine if possible.

could be a capacity issue

I have client where the QBKS bank recs (not a large number of transactions) take ages to 'reconcile now' on her machine. So long it locks up. On mine, it takes seconds.

Just a thought.

Peter thats interesting are you saying you had it on a NAS and experienced problems and that speed improved when you moved programme and data to local machine?

No

In my case, no. I don't have a lot of data on my QuickBooks clients.

I had a message come up when I was trying to upgrade and it recommended moving the data to a local machine.

There's plenty of advice using Google, I'm not sure how much is relevant to you though, eg.

QuickBooks running slowly

 Hi Caroline,

Sorry to hear you are having a bad experience.  Depending on your set-up there could be a number of reasons why your copy of QuickBooks seems to be running slowly.  You might need to do some troubleshooting to find the solution to your problem.

A good place to start would be the Intuit Support site, where you can access some free advice regarding installation and configuration and also how to improve performance.

Below is the link to the support site.  For Option 1, select the version of QuickBooks you are currently using and for Option 2, click on the Install and Setup tab, then go to network and multi-user set-up, where you will find the relevant information.

Alternatively, you can always call out support team who will be happy to assist you and offer advice to ensure you are set-up correctly.
