Rank Stupidity re 64-8s

Rank Stupidity re 64-8s

Didn't find your answer?

New company client - already set up with HMRC, though client cannot provide any correspondence showing which district deals with it.

Rang local district to find out where to send 64-8 to and lo and behold, they cant tell me because they dont hold a 64-8!

Has all common sense finally by-passed the Revenue?! Absolutely nuts!

I know, I've had this a couple of times. Sometimes I have managed to sweet-talk the person on the phone into giving me the district, otherwise, I send it to the office which I think is closest to the registered office of the coy. but to be honest, I am trying to avoid paper 64-8's at all costs now, as they take up too much of my time and energy!!!

Have you got a reference?
You don't say if you know the CT reference, but if it's in the 13 digit format of xxx xxxxx xxxxx, the first three numbers indicate the local office.

Of course, just to confuse things, the Revenue put the full number on the client's papers, but only use the last ten digits on the government gateway. Joined up thinking at its best.

It's all about the sweet-talking..

..and to quote DK:

"I am trying to avoid paper 64-8's at all costs now, as they take up too much of my time and energy!!!"

I have now given up using online authorisation for the very same reason!

Yes
I've got the 10-digit ref, just not the district. It's not like HMRC cant trace the record, is it?!

Drives me crazy
Twice I have taken on new clients who had immediate problems with the Revenue. I sent off letters with 64-8s attached so that I could phone them up and discuss quickly (after all they would have the 64-8s in their hands). I was told that they couldn't talk to me as they were "not registered on the system", and this would take a few weeks!
Enough to make a grown man cry.
