I assume you already have a site you like ...

but if not then I will always recommend http://www.accountantwebsmiths.co.uk/ who manage mine. I believe they also supply the various news feeds etc as bolt on's to your own site.

Website design and hosting

Oh dear - I have sympathy with you, as I am in the process of having my whole site redesigned and moving to another host company. My current hosts are a small company who think that they are good at graphic design but aren't and although they are techy and knowledgeable enough - one would think, their expensive enhancements to my site did not result in an increase in new clients from around 1 every 6 months.

I will be rolling up my sleeves to give a proper brief to the new company next week. I am going from a 2 man outfit to a national company. The person at the new company who has been assigned to me appears to have just left college but maybe will be properly supervised. When the site is up and running they will be doing search engine optimisation for me. But after 3 months if I don't see much change I will move the site to someone else just for hosting. So the jury's out as to whether I will see real improvements in enquiry levels.

I can honestly say it's a minefield out there. You will need to spend at least £1,000 for a redesigned or new website and more for seo if you think that will do any good. I think it would be worth interviewing several companies. If they are very small you risk being left on the sidelines when bigger clients than you are acquired. All of them seem to promise all sorts of things. Do they really understand the sort of clients you need and how many there are of those lovely people around?

Sorry to sound so negative - lots of money has left or will leave my bank account to pay for this type of thing and I'm feeling rather robbed.
