Registering with HMRC for Money Laundering

Hi There,

Help!!!

I am trying to register with HMRC for money laundering but everytime I ring the HMRC helpdesk nobody seems to know what I am talking about.

Can I clarify registering for Money Laundering is treated seperately from registering as self employed? Everytime I call the HMRC they keep telling me that all I need to do is register as being self employed....

Does anybody know how I can do this?
Is there an online form or a direct telephone number?

Thanks in advance

The following is the extract from HMRC guidance on how to register

Q. How do I register?
A. We have issued a registration summary to help new and existing businesses know when they need to register with HMRC and what forms need to be completed and sent to us.
The forms that you will need to register are available in our forms section along with guidance notes to help you complete the forms and details of where to send them.

visit the link below to take you to the correct area of HMRC website for the form and details

Word of caution, if you were in practice pre 1 January 2009 and are only now registering you have been technically breaching the ML regulations and by HMRC guidance subject to a financial penalty (£5,000). Currently, HMRC will count any unprompted disclosure, i.e. appliaction for registration without being prompted to do so by HMRC as enough mitigation to reduce the penalty to nil. They will however remind you of this in their covering letter.

As I understand it you only need to register with HMRC if you are not registered with your licensing body, so why not try registering with your licensing body?

If they are not helpful...

Hi,

Whoever you register with will be your first point of contact for advice and support. If they are not helpful why register with them? Why not register with a professional body instead?

If you are a bookkeeper visit www.bookkeepers.org.uk, supervision and membership starts at £126 (£6 more than HMRC) and you will get full support for MLR and all the other standard ICB benefits.
