REPORTING RESOURCES #1 - MANAGEMENT REPORTS AND KPI's

REPORTING RESOURCES #1 - MANAGEMENT REPORTS AND...

Didn't find your answer?

The Management Reporting page collects together all AccountingWEB’s resources on Reporting. These range from tutorials on Excel pivot tables, MS Access, and Sage Line 50, through to discussions about what sort of reports and key performance indicators ("KPI’s") accountants should be supplying to the management team.

This first set of resources deals with Management Reports and KPI’s ("key performance indicators").

What information do managers really require to run the business? In what format should this information be presented? What data will be needed in order to produce the report and where can you find it?

Jon Moulton of Alchemy, Graham Wylie founder of Sage, and our own Richard Murphy describe what they want to see in their ideal monthly management pack.

John Moulton points out that when you are reporting to the top level of management, they are only likely to read headline information, no deeper. He also tells how he got involved as a hands-on manager when he took responsibility for turning round Alchemy's latest acquisition, Cedar Accounts.

Richard Murphy in a series of three articles suggests his own set of KPI's.

One essential KPI identified by Richard was the need to identify sales and gross margins at the product level. My own 3 part series How to Report on Sales and Margins gives a practical example of how to report on margins.

We also have links to Duncan Williamson’s discussion of KPI’s on his own site, plus Any Answers discussions on how to calculate Daily Sales Outstanding, how far it is right to apportion overheads in manufacturing, and the principle of contribution to fixed overheads.
