Retired member as Reporting Accountant

Didn't find your answer?

I have retired from normal practice but still an FCA (no practicing cert).
I have been asked to act as an Independent Reporting Accountant to a local CAB (turnover £90k), Charity and Coy Ltd by Guarantee.
a) Can I act in this capacity?
b) If so, any pitfalls?

I forgot
That was so many years ago when I studied. Sorry, can't help. But I would think some form of statutory adherence is necessary, am I right?

Looks Dubious

I would have thought that being a Reporting Accountant is in this capacity still the same as holding yourself out to be regulated in private practice. The AAT wouldn't allow it for sure and their professional ethics and guidelines mirror whats best practice. DTI would expect your professional body to clear you to report on charities anyway. Which means a practising certificate is probably necessary....?

Ask the Institute
In the ICAEW there are some de minimus levels on fees, below which a Practising Certificate is not required. Assuming you are charging a nominal, or no fee, you're probably OK, but you should check with whichever Institute you belong to for guidance.
